| GOLF COURSES in BAHRAIN Bahrain has three Golf courses including the oldest Golf course in the Arabian Gulf area and maybe the entire Middle East at the Bahrain Awali Golf club, a great experience if you have never played on a sand golf course. Bahrain Royal Golf Club in Riffa is Bahrain's first International all grass 18 hole golf course, designed by Montgomerie,The Royal Golf Club’s Montgomerie championship course was fully renovated in early April. The Royal Golf Club has successfully hosted many prominent tournaments including the Gulf Air International Pro-Captain Challenge and the annual IADC Golf Day, the Royal Golf Club will also once again be the host venue to the prestigious Faldo Series Asia Middle East qualifier for the second consecutive year on 7th and 8th October 2010. Also in Bahrain is the nine hole Bahrain Golf Club, another sand golf course. All three of Bahrain's golf clubs are located in the same area of Bahrain just north of the Bahrain oil town of Awali in central Bahrain near Riffa. We have included links to the Riffa and Awali golf clubs websites and telephone numbers for the Bahrain Golf Club. THE ROYAL GOLF CLUB, MANAMA, BAHRAIN The Royal Golf course has been re-designed by International golfing legend Colin Montgomerie, responsible for the magnificent new design of the 18-hole, par 72 championship golf course at the Royal Golf Club. The eight-time European Order of Merit winner, affectionately known as Monty, first visited Bahrain in 2006. After carefully studying the topography and prevailing weather conditions of the site, and using his years of experience playing top golf courses around the globe, Monty and his associates from European Golf Design produced an inspiring plan. The new Montgomerie course offers a truly unique blend of links and desert golf, taking advantage of Bahrain’s natural rough desert terrain and combining it with vast man-made lakes. The desert feel is retained through the use of sandy waste bunkers and the attractive indigenous vegetation and grasses used in the landscaping. However, the rolling links-style fairways and undulating greens are immaculately maintained. With five teeing ground options on each hole and a perfect layout for shot makers and strategic players, the Montgomerie course delivers a challenging and unforgettable experience, an oasis of luscious fairways and immaculate greens. Golfing at night is also available to try to escape the summer heat. State-of-the-art floodlights installed on the back 9 holes of the Montgomerie course and across the whole of the Academy course. Riffa Golf Club is open to members and visitors, the Course, designed by world-renowned Course-Designer Karl Litten, has been acclaimed as challenging but fair. Riffa Golf Club boasts a stunning clubhouse and offers golfers the very highest international standards of service and facilities with a fully licensed bar and restaurants. The dress code at the driving range is relaxed – smart denim jeans or shorts and training shoes may be worn. AWALI GOLF CLUB The desert course at Awali Golf Club in the central part of Bahrain Island is the oldest golf club in the Arabian Gulf area and perhaps the oldest in the Middle East. The Awali golf club clubhouse, with a fully licensed bar, sits atop part of the rim that forms the basin within which the golf course lies. It offers views of the 1st, 7th, 10th, and 18th, teeing grounds and fairways, plus the 6th, 9th, and 18th greens. The golf course itself, like regular grass golf courses, takes advantage of the natural terrain, thus presenting a different set of challenges to golfers. The par 70, 6309 yard 18-hole golf course is littered with areas of uneven and often unkind bounce and therefore requires a 'horses for courses' approach to the game. The clubhouse offers a panoramic view from the patio of the desert landscape, which forms this unique and challenging golf course. Visitors are more than welcome. Please check with the club for available tee times. If you have never played on the sand then this is a not to be missed opportunity, but we would suggest that you don't play with your new clubs though.
